National Grandparents Day originated with Marian McQuade, a housewife from West Virginia. She championed the cause of the lonely elderly in nursing homes and encouraged grandchildren to tap into the wisdom and heritage their grandparents could provide. National Grandparents Day is celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day.2012 this falls on September 3rd.
